Combinatorial Semantics: Semantics for Frequent Validity

چکیده

In ordinary rst order logic, a valid inference in a language L is one in which the conclusion is true in every model of the language in which the premises are true. To accommodate inductive/uncertain/probabilistic/nonmonotonic inference, we weaken that demand to the demand that the conclusion be true in a large proportion of the models in which the relevant premises are true. More generally, we say that an inference is p;q] valid if its conclusion is true in a proportion lying between p and q of those models in which the relevant premises are true. If we include a statistical variable binding operator \%" in our language, there are many quite general (and useful) things we can say about uncertain validity. A surprising result is that some of these things may connict with Bayesian conditionalization.

Declarative Semantics in Object-Oriented Software Development - A Taxonomy and Survey

One of the modern paradigms to develop an application is object oriented analysis and design. In this paradigm, there are several objects and each object plays some specific roles in applications. In an application, we must distinguish between procedural semantics and declarative semantics for their implementation in a specific programming language. For the procedural semantics, we can write a ...

Lattice-Based Semantics for Combinatorial Model Evolution

Combinatorial test design (CTD) is an effective test design technique, considered to be a testing best practice. CTD provides automatic test plan generation, but it requires a manual definition of the test space in the form of a combinatorial model. As the system under test evolves, e.g., due to iterative development processes and bug fixing, so does the test space, and thus, in the context of ...

Application of Frame Semantics to Teaching Seeing and Hearing Vocabulary to Iranian EFL Learners

A term in one language rarely has an absolute synonymous meaning in the same language; besides, it rarely has an equivalent meaning in an L2. English synonyms of seeing and hearing are particularly grammatically and semantically different. Frame semantics is a good tool for discovering differences between synonymous words in L2 and differences between supposed L1 and L2 equivalents. Vocabulary ...

The Comparative Semantics of ‘Recitation’ and ‘Chanting’ in the Holy Quran and Hadith’s Viewpoint

In linguistics, a study of the relation between word and meaning is called semantics. Semantics is a term for referring to study the meaning of elements of a language, particularly to study the real context of sentences and phrases of a language. The meaning of ‘recitation’ and ‘chanting’ in terms of Quranic, Hadith and idiomatic applications will be identified in this p...

Lexical Semantics and Selection of TAM in Bantu Languages: A Case of Semantic Classification of Kiswahili Verbs

The existing literature on Bantu verbal semantics demonstrated that inherent semantic content of verbs pairs directly with the selection of tense, aspect and modality formatives in Bantu languages like Chasu, Lucazi, Lusamia, and Shiyeyi. Thus, the gist of this paper is the articulation of semantic classification of verbs in Kiswahili based on the selection of TAM types. This is because the sem...

A New Interpretation of the Semantics of "Moral Obligation" from Allame Tabatabaie's Viewpoint

The most important part in analyzing moral concepts includes those used as predicate in moral sentences covering moral concepts of valuation and obligation. Moral concepts in the field of values include those like “good” and “bad” while obligatory concepts include “ought to” and “ought no” and “duty”. Many papers have been written about “moral obligation”; however, dissociating the area of sema...
